Dr. Nikola Ragusa is a leading expert in glaucoma and a skilled laser cataract surgeon. He completed the prestigious seven-year program at CUNY Medical School, graduating with top honors and induction into Alpha Omega Alpha from Downstate School of Medicine. Dr. Ragusa served as Chief Resident during his ophthalmology residency at Northwell and as Chief Glaucoma Fellow at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and actively mentors doctors in training.
Dr. Ragusa is engaged in both academic and private practice environments. As a specialist in micro-incisional glaucoma surgery (MIGS), he has delivered lectures nationwide. His comprehensive eye care services offer tailored treatment options for each patient. Notably, he was among the first in the U.S. to offer innovative procedures such as Femto Laser Cataract Surgery, OMNI Canaloplasty, the Hydrus microstent, the Synergy Multifocal Extended Depth of Focus Lens, amongst others.
Dedicated to advancing ophthalmologic research, Dr. Ragusa has published numerous papers and served as the principal investigator on the phase 3 ARTEMIS Bimatoprost SR trial and the iCare Home tonometer study. He was also a sub-investigator for the Heidelberg Tomography Glaucoma Normative Database. With over a decade of clinical and surgical experience, he is one of the most experienced surgeons in the New York Metropolitan area.

Dr. Maciel Cruz, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Optometrist
Maciel Cruz, O.D., F.A.A.O., is a bilingual optometrist at New York Ophthalmology. She provides full scope optometry services, including eye disease management and treatment, and dry eye disease treatment. She’s passionate about providing exceptional eye care for her patients in the New York area.
Dr. Cruz achieved her Bachelor of Science from the University of South Florida and then earned her Doctor of Optometry from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Services University. She finished her residency in hospital-based primary care optometry and ocular disease at the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center, managing anterior segment disease, retinol pathology, glaucoma, and urgent care. After her residency, she completed her fellowship with the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Cruz is a member of the American Optometric Association. She has presented at a number of academic meetings and given Council on Optometric Practitioner Education-approved lectures. She also offers volunteer services by providing eye care in the Dominican Republic.
