Comprehensive Vision and Eye Health Examinations
Regular eye exams are an invaluable tool in maintaining healthy eyes by detecting and preventing disease.  Some diseases develop slowly without causing pain or vision loss. Early detection of any problems can reduce the risk of further harm and allow for a choice of treatment options. The entire exam process can take an hour depending on the complexity of the problem. Each patient will be evaluated with a refraction, slit lamp, intra-ocular pressure and a retinal exam.

Dry Eye Syndrome
Dry eyes can cause a range of uncomfortable symptoms, from redness and itchiness to blurred vision. Frequent dry eyes can signal dry eye syndrome, a complex disease that affects more than 16 million people in the United States. While dry eyes are common, it is important to see an experienced ophthalmologist for treatment that will relieve symptoms and prevent dry eye complications. At OCNY we offer a variety of therapies to combat the signs and symptoms of this insidious condition.

Pediatric Eye Care
We take pride in maintaining the vision of our younger patients in an environment that is lighthearted and fun. We want to insure the good sight, vision, and eye health for the rest of your child's life and take a preventative approach to his/her general health and eye health. We will work with your child's primary care physician to help keep his/her eyes healthy. It is important that all of our pediatric patients have healthy and efficient visual systems to help make visual demands of learning in school easier and fun.

Glaucoma Care
Glaucoma is an eye disease in which fluid builds up causing excess pressure that damages the optic nerve. More than 3 million Americans are affected by glaucoma, and it is a top cause of blindness for people over 40 years old. The most common type, called open angle glaucoma, can cause irreversible damage to vision without any prior symptoms. Open angle glaucoma is most common in people over 65, but can develop as young as 40. Since glaucoma can occur with no warning signs, regular eye exams are critical to early detection. If left untreated, glaucoma can cause irreparable vision loss. At OCNY, we offer the latest technology to treat your glaucoma effectively and efficiently.

Cataract Surgery
A cataract is a clouding of the eye that affects the vision of over 24 million Americans over the age of 40. Fortunately cataract surgery is highly effective in restoring clear vision with minimal risk. We at OCNY offer our experience and expertise, along with state-of-the-art technology, to provide patients with safe and effective cataract removal surgery. As part of our dedication to comprehensive care, we also offer surgical options to combine refractive treatment with cataract removal in order to provide complete vision improvement.

Laser Cataract Surgery
Our cataract laser is an advanced, precision-based technology that operates with unmatched accuracy and computer control, helping us to customize your cataract procedure to your unique vision needs. OCNY is one of the few practices to offer this latest advancement in cataract laser surgery.

LASIK Eye Surgery
LASIK eye surgery is the best known and most commonly performed laser refractive surgery to correct vision problems. Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) can be an alternative to glasses or contact lenses. During LASIK surgery, a special type of cutting laser is used to precisely change the shape of the dome-shaped clear tissue at the front of your eye (cornea) to improve vision. In eyes with normal vision, the cornea bends (refracts) light precisely onto the retina at the back of the eye. But with nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) or astigmatism, the light is bent incorrectly, resulting in blurred vision. Glasses or contact lenses can correct vision, but reshaping the cornea itself also will provide the necessary refraction. If you're considering LASIK surgery, you probably already wear glasses or contact lenses. We will talk with you about whether LASIK surgery or another similar refractive procedure is an option that will work for you.

ICL Eye Surgery
An implantable collamer lens (ICL) is an artificial lens that’s permanently implanted in the eye. The lens is used to treat: myopia (nearsightedness) hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.  Implanting an ICL requires surgery. A surgeon places the lens between the eye’s natural lens and colored iris. The lens works the eye’s existing lens to bend (refract) light on the retina, which produces clearer vision. The ICL is made of plastic and a collagen called collamer. It’s a type of phakic introcular lens. “Phakic” refers to how the lens is placed in the eye without taking out the natural lens. Though ICL surgery isn’t necessary to correct vision problems, it can eliminate or reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses. It’s also a possible alternative for people who can’t get laser eye surgery. But like most procedures, ICL surgery isn’t for everyone. If you were told that you cannot have LASIK, ICL surgery may be an option.

Diabetic Eye Care
In diabetic retinopathy the blood vessels of the retina become abnormal and develop tiny leaks, causing fluid or blood to seep into the retina, especially the macula. When fluid accumulates in the macula, it becomes wet and swollen and cannot work properly. This is called macular edema, which causes the central vision to become blurry. The form of diabetic retinopathy caused by leakage of retinal blood vessels is called non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). It is crucial that diabetic patients get their eyes examined regularly to prevent permanent eye damage from occurring. At OCNY, we offer specific retinal testing to ensure retinal and macular health for diabetics.
